Step Four

Alcoholics Anonymous

Made a searching and fearless moral inventory of ourselves.

Step Four

Living Free

Having made this decision, I now obey God’s call in Scripture to make a fearless, ethical, moral, and scriptural inventory of my entire life in order to uncover all sins, mistakes, and character defects and to make a written list of every item uncovered.

Read this scripture from Nehemiah and see how the people of Israel are mourning and weeping because they had not followed after God and His commands. It can be the same way for us as we take inventory and see where we had missed the mark. Let’s not mourn and weep but let us also rejoice in the Lord and allow Him to put us back on track!

Nehemiah 8:9-10 New Living Translation (NLT)

9 Then Nehemiah the governor, Ezra the priest and scribe, and the Levites who were interpreting for the people said to them, “Don’t mourn or weep on such a day as this! For today is a sacred day before the Lord your God.” For the people had all been weeping as they listened to the words of the Law.

10 And Nehemiah[a] continued, “Go and celebrate with a feast of rich foods and sweet drinks, and share gifts of food with people who have nothing prepared. This is a sacred day before our Lord. Don’t be dejected and sad, for the joy of the Lord is your strength!”
